This project draws inspiration from Gas Tanks (Germany, Belgium, United States, and Great Britain), 1965–92 by Hilla and Bernd Becher — a groundbreaking photographic duo known for documenting industrial architecture through strict visual typologies. Their work systematically captured structures such as water towers, gas tanks, and blast furnaces, presenting them as families of forms to reveal both their uniformity and subtle variations.
Using the Bechers’ gas tank series as my foundation, I traced and distilled the tanks into clean geometric outlines, treating them as a typology of shapes rather than photographs. From these industrial silhouettes, I built an illustrated fashion collection that translated cylindrical volumes, support structures, and repeating patterns into bags, dresses, and stilettos.
Years later, I revisited the project through A.I., feeding my original sketches and references into generative tools to bring the designs to life. The result is a hybrid exploration where art meets fashion meets illustration meets A.I., transforming industrial forms into wearable fantasies while preserving the typological logic that defined the Bechers’ work.
